30-Year-Old Tameka Talise Spence Dies after Collision with Light Rail Train in Phoenix

 
PHOENIX, AZ (December 22, 2019) – Authorities identified 30-year-old Tameka Talise Spence as the woman killed in a collision with a light-rail train, early Sunday morning.
 
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident happened at about 2:30 AM. Due to unknown circumstances, a 2014 Nissan Sentra was traveling eastbound on Washington Street, which is a one-way westbound street.
 
There, the Nissan collided with a light-rail train traveling southbound on 1st Avenue. The impact of the collision knocked the light rail train off the tracks. In addition, the impact also knocked down a traffic signal pole.
 
Emergency responders pronounced the Nissan driver, identified as Spence, dead at the scene. No other injuries were sustained in the collision.
 
Police determined that the train’s operator was not impaired at the time of the crash. Investigators believe that speed played a role in the fatal incident. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
