Big Rig on 5 Freeway Hits and Injures Man in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 20, 2019) — A man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a big rig on 5 Freeway Thursday morning.
 
The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred at about 12:24 a.m. The man was driving southbound on the freeway when he crashed onto the shoulder of the road about a mile north of Rowlee Road. According to witnesses, he was going at 90 miles per hour.
 
The vehicle then went off to the side, prompting the man to get out of his car. He then walked towards the center median. As he continued towards the shoulder of the highway, a big rig struck him.
 
The man sustained a head injury and blunt force trauma as per CHP officials. However, it was unclear which crash caused the head injury.
 
The investigators said drugs or alcohol were not factors in either crash.
