Dog Dies, Injuries Sustained in Lakehead Crash on 5 Freeway near Lakeshore Drive
LAKEHEAD, CA (December 20, 2019) — A dog died while a driver sustained injuries in a rear-end crash on 5 Freeway near Lakeshore Drive Monday morning.
The incident involved a van and a big rig according to the California Highway Patrol. At about 8:00 a.m., the big rig was going 20 miles per hour in the far right lane of the freeway when the van crashed into its back end.
A dog that was inside the van died in the crash. Meantime, the emergency crews extricated the van driver from the vehicle. They transported him to the hospital with broken legs. However, he is expected to survive. On the other hand, the truck driver of the big rig was not hurt.
The collision prompted the closure of 5 Freeway until about 11:25 a.m.
