Tran Thanhminh Fatally Struck by Fleeing Driver on Mission Avenue [Oceanside, CA]

Tran Thanhminh Dead and Wesley Stuart Arrested after Pedestrian Crash in Oceanside

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (December 18, 2019) – Authorities identified 65-year-old Tran Thanhminh as the pedestrian hit and killed by a fleeing driver in Oceanside, Wednesday evening.
 
According to the Oceanside Police Department, the incident happened at about 10:15 PM. A 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was heading eastbound at a high rate of speed. Then, it ran a red light and collided with a northbound Ford F-150 pickup.
 
After the crash, the Chevy driver backed up and continued driving. A short time later, the fleeing vehicle struck Thanhminh and dragged the victim about 150 feet down the street.
 
The Chevy driver, identified as 27-year-old Wesley Stuart, later exited the pickup at Rancho Del Oro and fled on foot, along with a passenger. Officers searched the area and apprehended Stuart and the passenger outside the suspect’s home.
 
Emergency responders pronounced Thanhminh dead at the scene. Meanwhile, his wife did not sustain injuries in the crash.
 
Meanwhile, authorities booked Stuart into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, misdemeanor hit-and-run, and felony driving under the influence. He’s being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
 
Oceanside police will release additional information once it becomes available.
