11 Hospitalized after Van Crashes into Ross Store on 1st Avenue South in Burien
BURIEN, WA (December 16, 2019) – Eleven people, including a toddler, suffered injuries after a van crashed into a store on 1st Avenue South, Monday evening.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at about 9:15 PM. A woman allegedly shoplifted at Ross Dress for Less. Then, she got into a white van, driven by a 51-year-old man, in an attempt to escape the area.
The van sped off and struck an unoccupied parked car before crashing through the front windows of the store. Then, the van traveled past the registers and into a clothing aisle. There, it struck a 2-year-old child in a stroller, as well as several other people.
Three people, the 2-year-old child, a 41-year-old man, and a man in his 30s, were transported to Harborview Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition. Seven people were sent to Highline Medical Center, while another person was taken to Valley Medical Center.
Authorities arrested the van driver on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs and vehicular assault. Meanwhile, the woman was also taken into custody.
Officers continue to investigate the crash. Investigators will release additional information once it becomes available.
