ESCONDIDO, CA (December 14, 2019) – Authorities publicly identified Joseph Spear, 42, of Montana, as the passenger killed in a crash on Monday, December 9.
 
According to the police, Spear is a passenger in the Corvette. The accident happened at around 7:50 p.m. when the 29-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle while speeding westbound on El Norte Parkway.
 
The sports vehicle veered off the road west of Fig Street. After that, it slammed into a fire hydrant and a tree, leaving the vehicle with extensive damage.
 
Paramedics brought Spear and the driver to Palomar Medical Center. Medical officers pronounced Spear dead about 40 minutes after the incident.
 
The driver received treatments for non-life-threatening injuries. It is still not yet determined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
