John Rubio Struck and Killed by Vehicles on Highway 74

 
PERRIS, CA (December 17, 2019) — Officials identified John Rubio, 33, of Perris, as the man fatally struck by cars on Highway  74 on Saturday, December 14.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 7 p.m. west of River Road. It is in an unincorporated area between Perris and Lake Elsinore.
 
Witnesses told CHP officers that a man went out of a bus. Then the man ran to the highway’s center divider. After that, he started waving his arms to try to get vehicles to see him as he tried to run across to the other side of the road.
 
As he tried to cross the eastbound lanes, a Dodge Caravan moving about 50 mph struck him. Reports said that the driver of the vehicle is Veronica Andrade, 31, of Lake Elsinore.
 
Moments later, as the man tried to get up, an eastbound Hyundai Santa Fe hit him despite efforts to avoid him. Officials identified Liliana Avila, 48, of Lake Elsinore as the driver of the Hyundai.
 
Rubio died at the scene, the coroner stated.
 
Both drivers stayed at the scene. There were no arrests made.
