Diego Ruiz-Marin Arrested, One Injured after Mountain View DUI Crash on Highway 101

 
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (December 17, 2019) – Officers arrested Diego Andres Ruiz-Marin following a DUI crash in Highway 101 on Thursday, December 12.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 1:45 a.m. near the San Antonio Road exit in Palo Alto.
 
Investigators said that 20-year-old Stanford student Diego Andres Ruiz-Marin lost control of the vehicle. Then the car careened into the center divider. The incident triggered a multi-vehicle crash including a truck carrying a load of gravel.
 
Paramedics transported the truck driver to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Officials arrested Ruiz-Marin on DUI charges.
 
The force of the collision heavily damaged the vehicles. It also left piles of gravel along the freeway lanes. This caused the closure of all lanes of the busy freeway for several hours.
 
CHP opened the northbound lanes open around 5:20 a.m.
