One Dead after Santa Barbara Pedestrian Crash on Highway 101
SANTA BARBARA, CA (December 16, 2019) – A man died following a pedestrian crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara on Friday, December 13.
According to CHP Officer Jonathan Gutierrez, the pedestrian crash happened at around 1:15 a.m. in the southbound highway lanes near the Garden Street exit.
A big rig struck the 21-year-old Oak Park man while he was in the right-hand lane of the highway, Gutierrez said. The man succumbed to his fatal injuries at the scene.
The big-rig tractor did not haul a trailer during the incident. Officials identified the truck driver as Charles C. Hudson, 56, of Loma Linda. He was not hurt.
It is not yet determined if alcohol and/or drugs contributed in this collision, said Gutierrez.
The identity of the victim was not released pending notification of loved ones.
The investigation about the incident is still ongoing.
Our deepest condolences remain with the family and friends of the victim as they try to piece together what happened.
