Mario Gomez Pronounced Brain-Dead in Hunting Beach Bicycle Accident

 
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (December 11, 2019) – A bicyclist involved in an accident identified as Mario Gomez was pronounced brain-dead on Sunday.
 
The collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the area of Gothard Street and Heil Avenue on Friday, December 6.
 
According to the police, the bicyclist, a 57-year-old Anaheim man, collided with a 2003 Ford Expedition. The cyclist did not have a helmet and traveled on the wrong side of the road during the incident.
 
Gomez sustained major trauma and paramedics rushed him to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Medical officers pronounced him brain dead at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Huntington Beach Police Department said.
 
The Expedition had some damage to its front end. The driver, a 34-year-old Huntington Beach man, was not hurt. He stayed at the scene, police stated.
