Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Metro Train after Falling Off Station Platform near Exposition Boulevard
LOS ANGELES, CA (December 11, 2019) – A man was struck and killed by a Metro train near Exposition Boulevard, early Wednesday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened at about 1:00 AM. Due to unknown circumstances, a pedestrian fell backwards onto the tracks.
Then, he attempted to climb back onto the platform but was struck by an eastbound Expo Line train.
The train that struck the victim did not stop because the conductor did not realize that the train hit a person. Minutes later, a second train noticed the pedestrian and stopped to render aid.
Emergency responders pronounced the victim, described as a man in his 40s, dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Los Angeles police continue to investigate the cause of the fatal collision. As per reports, officials have a copy of the surveillance video to help with their investigation. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
