54-Year-Old Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway [Bellingham, WA]

BELLINGHAM, WA (December 10, 2019) – A 54-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian crash on 5 Freeway, late Tuesday evening.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident happened at about 11:46 PM. A white 2012 Ford Fusion was traveling northbound in the right lane and struck the pedestrian. A short time later, a red 2004 Honda Accord also hit the victim.
 
Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
 
The Ford driver, 31-year-old Marc L. Brendlinger, and the Honda driver, 24-year-old Katie E. Hinkley, remained and cooperated with investigators. No other injuries were reported by authorities.
 
Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
