Wally Driskell Fatally Injured after Oakley Head-on Crash on Bethel Island Road

 
OAKLEY, CA (December 10, 2019) – A 69-year-old Bethel Island resident identified as Wally Driskell died in a head-on crash on Thanksgiving.
 
The accident happened on Bethel Island Road north of Cypress Road in Oakley shortly before 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 27.
 
Driskell was the sole occupant in his Dodge sedan. East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extract him from the wreckage. Paramedics airlifted him to the trauma center at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 
There were two occupants of the other car involved, including a pregnant woman. First responders rushed both by ground ambulance to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch. Reports described their injuries from minor to moderate.
 
The Oakley Police Department (OPD) is still investigating the crash. A spokesperson at the accident scene said there was no sign that either driver was under the influence in any way. No charges were filed.
 
According to the OPD, Driskell moved south on Bethel Island Road when the incident happened. Both vehicles had extensive damage. Authorities closed the road while police, fire and paramedic crews conducted operations.
