82-Year-Old Woman Dies after Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 111

 
EL CENTRO, CA (December 5, 2019) – An 82-year-old woman lost her life in a wrong-way crash on Highway 111, early Thursday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 5:23 PM. Due to unknown reasons, a 2017 Toyota was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 111. There, it collided head-on with a 2003 Ford truck near Aten Road.
 
Emergency responders rushed the Toyota driver to El Centro Regional Medical Center, where she later died. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the Ford driver was also hospitalized after suffering a fractured right leg.
 
CHP officers ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the fatal crash. In addition, they noted that both drivers were secured in their seat belts at the time of the collision. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
