Tyler William Burk Identified as Driver Killed in Auburn Crash on Highway 49
AUBURN, CA (December 4, 2019) – Authorities identified 21-year-old Tyler William Burk of Auburn as the driver killed in a crash on Highway 49, Wednesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 1:00 PM. A 2013 Volkswagen Golf, driven by Burk, was traveling northbound at a very high rate of speed in the center turning lane. Then, Burk suddenly swerved into the southbound lanes of Highway 49.
There, the Volkswagen struck the left rear corner of a Ford F1-50 pickup truck. The impact of the collision caused the Volkswagen to swerve into the path of an Acura RDX.
Emergency responders pronounced Burk dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the 73-year-old Acura driver was transported to a hospital with major injuries. The Ford driver remained and did not sustain injuries in the crash.
CHP officers believe that Burk may have suffered a medical event prior to the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
