Big Rig Involved in Fatal Rear-End Crash on 5 Freeway
BUTTONWILLOW, CA (December 5, 2019) – A driver was killed in a rear-end crash on 5 Freeway, early Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 5:08 AM. Due to unknown circumstances, a late-model Kia sedan crashed into the rear of a big rig. Then, the vehicle veered into a fence off the right side of the road.
Emergency responders pronounced the Kia driver dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the truck driver remained and cooperated with investigators.
CHP officials believe that speed played a role in the fatal crash. Investigators also noted that the car slammed into the big rig in heavy fog. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
