65-Year-Old Woman Dies after Two-Vehicle Crash on Avenue D

 
LANCASTER, CA (November 25, 2019) – A 65-year-old woman died in a car crash on Avenue D, late Monday afternoon.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 4:55 PM. A northbound red 2011 Ford Focus stopped for the posted stop sign at Avenue D and then proceeded into the intersection. There, the Ford Focus driver failed to yield the right away to a westbound Dodge pickup truck.
 
The pickup truck driver, 56-year-old Saul B. Lozoya, applied brakes but was unable to avoid the collision near 60th Street West.
 
Emergency responders rushed the front passenger in the Ford Focus to Antelope Valley Hospital, where she later died of her injuries. Authorities withheld her identity, pending notification of next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, the driver, 73-year-old Leroy G. Wikander of Rosamond, was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries. The pickup driver did not suffer injuries in the collision.
 
CHP officers ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the fatal collision. Investigators encourage witnesses to call Officer Spann at (661) 948-8541 as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
