Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 80 near Gilman Street
BERKELEY, CA (November 18, 2019) – A person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 80, Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Gilman Street, at about 5:16 AM. A car was disabled in one of the center lanes when another vehicle crashed into it from behind.
Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the disabled car dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, a ground ambulance transported the other driver to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the surviving driver did not see the disabled car due to possible drowsiness. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
